About Course

This course prepares Explorer Scouts and DofE participants to complete safe, self-sufficient, and responsible outdoor expeditions under remote supervision. It covers critical safety protocols, fieldcraft skills, and behaviour expectations in line with Scout Association values and DofE standards.

What Will You Learn?

  • Safety & Emergency Protocols: Understand stove/fire safety, road rules, water precautions, and how to use Emergency Action Cards.
  • Health & Field Hygiene: Manage medical needs, basic first aid, blister/tick prevention, water treatment, and wild camping sanitation.
  • Conduct & Standards: Uphold the SEEE Code of Conduct, Scout Law, and Leave No Trace principles while representing Scouting in public.

Course Content

Behaviour, Conduct & Standards
This topic establishes the behavioral standards, core values, and expectations required of all participants. It emphasizes representing Scouting and the DofE responsibly in public, adhering to the SEEE Code of Conduct, respecting others and the environment, and upholding the Scout Promise and Law throughout the expedition.

Expedition Safety & Risk Management
This topic covers the practical skills and awareness needed to navigate environmental and operational risks safely under remote supervision. Participants learn guidelines for working as a self-sufficient team, safe stove operation and fire prevention, highway navigation, hazard awareness around livestock or logging, and strict water safety rules.

Health, Hygiene & Emergency Action
This topic focuses on maintaining personal well-being, preventative health, and emergency response protocols in the field. It details medical disclosures, first aid requirements, fieldcraft hygiene (water treatment and wild camping sanitation), blister and tick prevention, and steps for using Emergency Action Cards or contacting emergency services.
