Welcome to South East Scotland Scouts DofE registration. Whether you are registering for an award level for the first time, booking an expedition for the upcoming season, or transferring your DofE progress from school or another organisation, select your pathway below to get started.
Start a DofE Award Level
Who this is for:
- Participants starting their DofE journey for the first time at any level (Bronze, Silver, or Gold).
- Participants who want to register for their next level (e.g. Silver or Gold).
- DOES NOT include the expedition – see below
Age & Membership Requirements:
- Bronze: Must be in S3 or aged 14+.
- Silver: Must be in S4 or aged 15+.
- Gold: Must be aged 16+.
- Must be an active member of South East Scotland Scouts (an Explorer Scout Unit or Scout Network).
- You have until you are 25 to complete any award
Direct Entry & Timescales:
You can sign up for Bronze, Silver, or Gold directly, provided you meet the age requirements. Starting straight at Silver or Gold simply adds a few months to your activity section timescales. See dofe.org/do/timescales for full details.
Moving to Your Next Level Early:
You do not need to wait until your previous award is fully completed. You can sign up for your next DofE level as soon as you meet the age requirement and have completed at least one section (Volunteering, Physical, Skills, or Expedition) of your current Award. Registering early lets you start logging activities for your new level right away. You may not have more than 2 award levels in progress at a time.
Stuck on a Previous Level?
If you have fallen behind on an earlier Award but are now eligible for Silver or Gold by age, you can choose to switch directly to the higher level instead of finishing your previous one. This means signing up as a Direct Entry candidate and abandoning the lower level. Speak to your Explorer Leader to decide the best path forward.
Transfers
If you already started your DofE with another organisation, you can request a transfer to Scouts with this form.
What You Need:
- OSM login (optional, but it helps us link your registration to your young OSM record)
- Your existing 7-digit eDofE ID number (if you already have one).
- Award registrations for Explorers (under 18) must be submitted by a parent or guardian.
Costs & Availability:
- Check our costs page for current DofE enrolment fees. Financial support may be available in complete confidence so cost is never a barrier.
- Availability: Open year-round. There is no closing date for award registration—you can sign up for an award level at any time.
Book an Expedition (2027 Season)
Who this is for:
- Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members looking to complete their training, practice, and qualifying expeditions in 2027.
Prerequisites & Eligibility:
- You must be an active member of South East Scotland Scouts (Explorer Unit or Scout Network).
- You must be signed up to the corresponding DofE award level (Bronze, Silver, or Gold) by the time of your practice expedition (see above for award registration).
- If you have a lower level in progress, you must have completed the expedition
What is Included:
- Training (online and in person), practice expedition and qualifying expedition.
- Note – you are expected to participate in the training programme to be able to do the practice and qualifying expeditions
Dates & Deadlines:
Because expedition teams are built around participant numbers and qualified volunteer leader ratios, exact expedition weekends are finalised once we know who wants to participate.
- Silver / Gold – Hillwalking & Biking – Sign up by 1st November 2026, and we will form teams and advise dates in December / January.
- Bronze / Silver / Gold – Paddling – We do not yet know what options will be offered by Longcraigs ESSU, you can register your interest and we’ll be in touch.
- Bronze – Sign up by January 31st 2027 and we will pass your registration to your district.
- If you miss these deadlines, sign up anyway and we’ll do our best to accommodate you, although we may not be able to give you your choice of dates or team mates.
What You Need:
- OSM login (optional, but it helps us link your registration to your young OSM record)
- Participant’s 7-digit eDofE ID number (if you have it yet).
- Any known date constraints for spring/summer 2027.
- Expedition registrations for Explorers (under 18) must be submitted by a parent or guardian.
Costs & Deadlines:
- See our costs page for full expedition fees. Confidential staged payment plans and regional grant assistance are available.
- Booking Deadline: See above
Transfer Your DofE to Scouts
Who this is for:
- Young people who started their DofE Award through a school, an open award centre, another organisation or another Scout County/Region and now wish to continue or complete it with South East Scotland Scouts.
Prerequisites & Membership:
- You must be an active member of an Explorer Scout Unit or Scout Network within South East Scotland.
- You must already have an active eDofE account with your previous organisation.
How the Transfer Works:
Transferring your account links your existing eDofE profile to South East Scotland Scouts. All previously approved sections, uploaded evidence, and assessor reports remain fully intact. Once transferred, your local Explorer Leaders and our regional team can review and approve your ongoing activities.
What You Need:
- Your 7-digit eDofE ID number (ask your previous leader or log in to edofe.org if unsure).
- The name of your current South East Scotland Explorer Scout Unit or Network group.
Cost & Availability:
- Cost: Transferring your eDofE record to Scouts is completely free of charge.
- Availability: Open year-round.
