Unlike the other sections, which you must arrange yourself with advice from your leader, your Expedition section will be organised by Scouting, as South East Scotland Region Scouts is a DofE Centre within Scouts Scotland, which is a Licensed Organisation for DofE. This means we have to follow the Scouting rules for expeditions, camping etc.
Once you have signed up with SEEE for an expedition (‘Silver Hillwalking’, ‘Gold Biking’ etc), and registered for a place with DofE for that level, we will send you all the information you need, and let you know about training etc.
It is important, however, that you should understand what DofE requires, so please check the information below.
What activities count (from the DofE website)
For your Expedition section, you will need to plan, train for and complete an unaccompanied, self-reliant expedition with an agreed aim. You must do the correct training for your level and mode of travel, at least one practice expedition, a qualifying expedition (the one that is assessed) and a final presentation in order to complete the section.
Your expedition must be completed by your own physical efforts (but you have loads of choices, not just on foot!) with minimal external intervention and without motorised assistance. Your route should also be a continuous journey.
